Bio
Marko was born in New Jersey, USA by immigrant parents from former Yugoslavia. He started doing photography in high school in a traditional black and white darkroom. In 1994, he attended Parsons School of Design in New York, majoring in photography. There he focused on street and documentary photography while learning additional multimedia skills.
After obtaining his degree in 1998, he continued to work in New York and New Jersey in various jobs in the photography, graphic arts and design industries. From 2001 to 2003, Marko worked at the Puffin Foundation (a cultural center and grant organization) as a curator, graphic and web designer and organizer of activities.
In 2004, Marko moved to Oaxaca, Mexico, to pursue his artistic interests. While learning Spanish he worked as a photographer. Enchanted by Oaxaca’s culture, nature and spirit, he decided to make it his second home. Visually, he found it a fascinating place to produce his personal artwork for its colors, way of life and authenticity.
During 2007, Marko lived in Merida, Yucatan where he was a photography teacher in E.S.A.Y. university of arts.
He has currently relocated to New York City.
He continues to produce and exhibit his artwork and independent projects, travelling between Merida, New York, Chiapas and Oaxaca. |
